A planning and design consultancy in Maidstone is seeking an Architectural Designer, Architect, or Architectural Technician with a strong interest in early‑stage design. The role focuses on concept creation, feasibility work, and producing design material that supports effective planning outcomes. Working alongside town planners and transport specialists, the successful candidate will help shape proposals, unlock complex sites, and contribute visually engaging, design‑led planning strategies. This position suits an individual who enjoys generating ideas, exploring development potential, and producing compelling design narratives without being involved in later technical delivery stages.

Candidates must have recent, relevant UK industry experience; applications from those newly graduating or without UK experience cannot be considered.

Daily Duties
  • Developing concept designs, feasibility studies, and strategic site layouts for diverse development projects.
  • Producing 2D drawings, hand‑drawn sketches, and 3D SketchUp models.
  • Preparing design and access statements, land promotion material, and visual outputs for planning submissions.
  • Working collaboratively with planners, transport specialists, and clients to inform planning‑led design strategies.
  • Providing creative input for pre‑application discussions, client meetings, and public consultation material.
  • Managing multiple projects while maintaining design quality and attention to detail.
  • Assisting with the preparation of planning application packs, from initial concepts through to final presentation drawings.
Ideal Candidate
  • Architectural Assistant/ Designer, Architect, or experienced Architectural Technician with strong early‑stage design experience.
  • Several years recent industry experience in a design or planning‑focused environment.
  • Strong interest in concept design, planning, and site strategy.
  • Good understanding of UK planning policy and processes.
  • Proficient in SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Excellent graphical, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Enjoys collaborative working, creative problem‑solving, and adding value through design.
