Job summary

Reading Borough Council is seeking an Archaeology Officer to support the Berkshire Archaeology team in Reading and across five Berkshire authorities. The role focuses on planning advice, conservation, and promoting archaeological works with developers and contractors.

You will work to protect sites, monitor works, and contribute to public engagement and outreach, with a commitment to diversity and flexible hybrid working arrangements.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in archaeology or related discipline.
• At least two years’ professional archaeology experience in Britain.
• Strong understanding of British archaeology, historic landscapes and planning systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide archaeological advice on planning and development proposals.
• Ensure appropriate mitigation is delivered to high standards with developers and practitioners.
• Contribute to Historic Environment Record development and engage with local communities.
