Neway International have a job opportunity for an Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) to join the Adult Mental Health team based with Powys County Council.


Location: County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5LG


Role overview

Powys County Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) to join their Adult Mental Health team on a temporary basis. This role is essential in responding to a peak in workload and offers the opportunity to work within a committed and multidisciplinary service supporting vulnerable adults across Powys.


Start Date: 17 November 2025


Duration: 19 Weeks


Hours per Week: 37

Key Responsibilities


  • Undertake statutory AMHP duties under the Mental Health Act

  • Assess individuals in crisis and coordinate appropriate interventions

  • Liaise with health professionals, emergency services, and legal representatives

  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation and reporting

  • Contribute to safeguarding and risk management processes

  • Support service users with complex mental health needs across Powys


Requirements


  • Must be a qualified Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP)

  • Registered with Social Work England

  • Proven experience in mental health social work

  • Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act and related legislation

  • Excellent communication, assessment, and decision-making skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
