Job summary
Trafford Council is seeking an Apprentice Youth Worker to join the Youth Service. You will study one day a week towards a BA (Hons) Degree Apprenticeship in Community Development and Youth Work while gaining hands-on experience at Talkshop and in community settings.
You will help run youth clubs, deliver detached youth work, and build trusted relationships with young people, enabling participation and positive outcomes.
Qualifications
- You will have a Level 3 qualification and Maths and English to Level 2.
- Experience engaging with young people through work experience, volunteering, or youth forums.
- Commitment to studying for a Youth Work Degree.

Working Pattern: Full time (1 day per week for apprenticeship study).
Working Arrangement: 36.25 hours per week
You will work flexibly from our Talkshop young peoples facility in Sale and a number of community settings across Trafford up to 9pm on weekday evenings (occasional weekend working may be required).

This is an exciting opportunity to become a JNC qualified Youth Worker with Trafford Youth Service while completing a BA (Hons) Degree Apprenticeship in Community Development and Youth Work. You will study one day each week and gain practical experience at our Talkshop young peoples centre and via community-based youth work. At Talkshop, you will offer young people accessible information, advice, guidance and groupwork activities. In communities, you will help deliver universal youth clubs and detached youth work, engaging young people in the places where they meet. You will build trusted relationships, encourage participation, support personal development and help young people achieve positive outcomes.
You will have a passion to work with young people and want to empower them to achieve their potential. You will have experience of engaging with young people through work experience or volunteering activities or via participation in youth voice, youth forum groups. You will have a good knowledge of issues affecting young people and how to support those who are facing a range of challenges in their lives. You will be highly focused on achieving your Youth Work Degree so you can become a professionally qualified youth worker and you will have the drive and determination to put in the necessary study time to achieve your qualification. You will need to have a Level 3 qualification and Maths and English to Level 2 as a minimum in order to apply.
- You must be available to start your degree apprenticeship on Tuesday 29th September 2026 including induction week, and weekly University day’s (Please note this may be before all HR processes are completed and you officially start work you will receive all your time back when you officially start in role).
- An enhanced/basic DBS Check with children/ barred list will be required.
- You will be required to deliver services from 9:00am until 9:00pm (on a rota basis) as many youth work sessions are after school/early evening. There may be occasional weekend work to meet young peoples needs e.g. Residentials.
- Internal candidates and Trafford care experienced young people who apply and meet the minimum entry requirements will be guaranteed an interview.
