A local government authority in Aylesbury seeks a motivated individual for a marketing apprenticeship within the Waste Prevention Team. This role offers practical experience in marketing and waste management, focusing on community engagement and recycling initiatives. The ideal candidate will develop marketing skills while completing a Level 3 qualification. Salary starts at £14,566 p.a., with opportunities for growth and a supportive work environment.
We’re looking for a passionate and energetic person to join our Waste Prevention Team in Neighbourhood Services. You’ll combine work-based training along achieving an Advanced (Level 3) qualification in Multi-Channel Marketing that will help you towards a career in the field of marketing, the environment or waste management and strategy.
Working for one of the largest employers in the County, you will gain practical marketing and promotions skills as well as experience of the waste management services that the Council provides. Waste Management plays a key role in addressing the Climate crisis and this role will help support the Councils efforts locally.

The role sits within the Strategic Waste Management and Enforcement service. The team work collaboratively to provide core Council services that cover waste treatment, recycling, reuse and recovery operations provided through a number of multi-million-pound waste contracts. Contracts the team manage include the Energy from Waste (EFW) contract, the Household Recycling Centre (HRC) contract and Green, Food, Bulky and Wood (GFBW) contract.
Collectively the team are involved in a wide range of work from enforcement to contract management, procurements, communications, internal business/systems improvements, infrastructure projects, behaviour change projects and customer service. The wider team also covers the management of fly tipping, unlawful encampments, and traveller community enforcement. Working across the team means there are plenty of opportunities for learning and development in both a formal and informal capacity. The team environment is fast paced, dynamic and supportive, we invest in ‘growing our own’ so there are excellent opportunities for career progression. A typical day might involve monitoring social media channels, responding to messages from the public, writing articles or content for the website and social media and collating data & recording it accurately.
The role will help support the wider team whilst giving you exposure to how the waste service operates and will include the opportunity to see first-hand how waste is managed and processed in Buckinghamshire.
Your work will focus on supporting projects that encourage residents to reduce, reuse and recycle more. It includes creating content to share with local residents about waste and recycling, this could be on our website or via social channels or include input into printed media such as magazine articles and leaflets. Other responsibilities will include attending public events, responding to resident queries, engaging with community groups, schools and external stakeholders and supporting the contracts team to deliver excellent services.
All this will develop in you an understanding of marketing techniques and communication tools and how these can be applied to waste management in a local government setting, and the role of communications in promoting good waste behaviours. This work can then be applied to real life campaigns and promotions and assist with delivering a key Council service. Alongside your day-to-day role you will also study to achieve the Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketer apprenticeship throughout the duration of your time with us. For this we’ll assign you time during your working week for study and assessments - which means no evening or weekend study is required.
Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

For Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship - Qualified to Level 2 or above in Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE grades A* - C/9-4 or equivalent), or Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship Qualification.
Please note: You will not be eligible for this post if you have a degree in the same subject as this apprenticeship, or other qualifications in the same subject at an equivalent level.
Our apprenticeship roles are on a fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship. Level 3 is usually for about 18 months.
Salary
Your initial apprentice salary will be £14,566 p.a. which will increase in the 2nd year of your apprenticeship to £19,292 if you are aged 19-20, or £23,556 if you are aged 21 or above.

This is a full time position working a 37 hour week Monday to Friday and you will be required to travel to the office at least two days a week.
The ability to converse with ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post (Code of Practice: English language requirements for public sector workers 2016).
Some travel will be necessary, and expenses will be provided for this.
We cannot guarantee a permanent position following completion of the apprenticeship, however this is a great opportunity to develop knowledge of the waste management field of work which continues to grow whether working in the public or private sector.
