Overview
An apprenticeship at Savills designed to lead to qualification as a Chartered Surveyor (RICS). The programme combines on‑the‑job training, a level 6 apprenticeship, a part‑time undergraduate degree and an APC training programme, culminating in membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Responsibilities
- Provide timely and appropriate tenancy reports to surveyors and clients as requested.
- Assist in undertaking team and departmental compliance and due diligence tasks.
- Develop experience in reviewing property related documentation such as leases.
- Create and maintain spreadsheets in Excel.
- Interact with occupiers and landlords, which may include accompanied site visits.
- Assist surveyors to regularly review and approve lease related charges and payments.
- Prepare workflow instructions for new clients, properties, leases and ongoing amendments to tenancies – including extracting information from leases or other legal documents.
- Ensure that the respective accounts systems are up to date, hold the correct tenant information, and that all relevant invoices and credits have been raised.
- Assist surveyors and central credit control teams to chase all debts owed to clients on their managed portfolios and ensure that all money received is allocated properly.
- Assist surveyors and analysts to ensure service charge deadlines are met in line with the RICS code of practice.
- Provide data, information and advice for clients relevant to the surveying discipline.
- Recommend solutions to ensure safe and secure working environments (Health and Safety).
- Provide advice relating to the construction technology of buildings and their materials (Construction Technology).
- Negotiate and agree terms for acquisition/disposal of property, standard forms of building contracts or other property related contracts and liaise with legal advisers (Law).
- Manage instructions from engagement to completion (Consultancy).
- Undertake inspections and surveys and provide advice and recommendations to clients relating to building surveys (Building Surveys).
- Carry out the preparation of the design and specification of building projects from outline proposals to completion of the design and specification process (Prepare designs and specifications).
- Implement administrative procedures for the running of a construction project including issue of instructions, payment provisions, variation procedures, completion and possession issues, issuing certificates (Administer contracts).
- Prepare capital and rental valuations of land and property for a range of formal and appraisal purposes and prepare client reports (Valuation and appraisal).
- Negotiate solutions to issues affecting both owners and occupiers of land and property including management, sales, lettings, purchase and/or planning (Land, property and planning law).
- Undertake inspections of land and property and prepare related reports and advice, take measurements, prepare and present measurements appropriately (Inspection and measurement).
- Provide advice and recommendations as to appropriate procurement routes and manage the tendering processes relevant to them (Tendering and procurement).
- Undertake the detailed quantification, costing and cost planning of complex construction works (Costing and cost planning of construction works).
- Manage the construction phase of a construction project, carrying out life cycle costing, applying value engineering processes, preparing data, reports and forecasts (Manage efficiencies of construction contracts).
Training & Development
- On the job training is provided to ensure all the required knowledge and experience is obtained throughout the apprenticeship to qualify successfully.
- 5‑year training programme (Level 6 Apprenticeship), which includes a part‑time undergraduate degree (4 years) and an APC training programme (2 years) leading to qualification as a Chartered Surveyor (RICS).
- Once APC is passed, continued receiving training and career development opportunities.
- Full suite of Savills training programme including mandatory health and safety and office training, as well as specific training relevant to your role.
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is current and all staff are fully up to date with changes to legislation and business needs.
Education Requirements
GCSE in English (grade 4 or above) and Maths (grade 4 or above).
A‑levels/BTEC/Equivalent (grade 96 or above) or equivalent.
