A leading construction and engineering company in Wales is seeking an SHE Apprentice to support health, safety, and environmental functions on-site. The position encompasses researching best practices, assisting with SHE reports, and promoting safety standards within a critical nuclear project. Ideal candidates should have 5 GCSEs with grades A*-C, strong communication skills, and an eagerness to learn in a collaborative environment. This role offers both on-the-job and off-the-job training, contributing to a fulfilling apprenticeship experience.
The role of the SHE Apprentice is to assist the Contract SHE functions to enable the contract to implement the Group SHE Management System. To gain experience, knowledge and develop relationships with stakeholders, whilst maintaining an independent and objective view of SHE Performance on the Contract.
This role supports Costain for the Reactor Height Reduction Project at Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) Trawsfynydd Site, based in North Wales. The three and half year project will involve the partial demolition of each RB’s, reducing the overall height and reducing the current asset management liability. In addition, an extensive package of civil new build and remedial works will be delivered prolonging the durability of the retained structures.
A first of its kind for the Nuclear Sector; this challenging and exciting project which includes a wide supply chain will significantly reduce the uncertainty associated with the current condition of the reactor buildings and lessen the visual impact caused by the Reactor Buildings on the Snowdonia National Park.
There are a wide range of apprenticeships available both in levels of qualification, and in length of study. At Costain we have a variety of apprenticeships on offer working on projects around the UK in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels and with a number of partners and joint ventures.
When taking on one of the many apprenticeships offered by Costain you will be supported by your project line manager and team, The Costain Early Careers Team, and the training provider of your academic qualification. The training provider may be a college, a university or even an independent training provider.
At your interview you will discuss the level of qualification on offer. At this time, we may not know which training provider you will be registered with but either before or in the early weeks of your apprenticeship, the Early Careers Team will register you with a suitable training provider who can support the delivery of your qualification. Being an apprentice means you will work both on-the‑job with your project at site, and off-the‑job at with the provider.
You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your local team and line manager, and you will be given time to carry out your studies with the provider etc. Your on‑the‑job training will be in line with the work available on site but will afford the opportunity to ensure that you are given on‑site experience required to meet the technical and competency levels in order to achieve your apprenticeship goals.
Please note that candidates from within the local area are preferred due to the location of the role.
Candidates will be required to obtain security clearance, details of which can be found here https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gov.uk%2Fgovernment%2Fpublications%2Funited-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels%2Fnational-security-vetting-clearance-levels&data=05%7C02%7C%7C928402866c3441c9537708de3998c244%7C8cb09124b2c74dab89abb3781aa4e809%7C0%7C0%7C639011525428876933%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=mRSbw6Zcskl3uYEakWew%2FVky9QFTmIO%2FIX5ObCEv9jI%3D&reserved=0
