About the role

This apprenticeship is the perfect opportunity to gain hands‑on experience and build a strong foundation for your future. Erith is looking for a motivated Plant Operative Apprentice to join our team.

Over the course of this apprenticeship, you will gain practical on‑site experience while working towards a recognised qualification in plant operations. This programme is a key step toward a career operating and maintaining construction machinery across a range of projects.

As part of our team, you will support experienced Plant Operatives, Supervisors, and Site Managers in the safe and efficient operation of plant and machinery. You will assist with daily inspections, machine operation, routine maintenance checks, and site activities while developing the skills and knowledge required to work safely and effectively within a construction environment.

You will play an important role in supporting site operations, helping to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard while contributing to the delivery of successful projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with daily plant inspections and safety checks.
• Learn how to safely operate designated plant and machinery.
• Support excavation, loading, grading, and material handling activities.
• Help maintain plant cleanliness and operational condition.
• Report defects and maintenance requirements to Supervisors.
• Follow site‑specific method statements and risk assessments.
• Work closely with Site Managers, Supervisors, and Plant Operators.
• Attend apprenticeship training and complete required assessments.

What we're looking for

• Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
• A valid CSCS Labourers card.
• GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent.

This role requires a 45 hour working week, which is above the legal limit for workers under 18. Candidates must therefore be 18 or over.
