Job description
Overview

14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship as a Health Care Support Worker in Paediatrics. The post covers Buxton Ward and Children’s Day Ward, with exposure to all medical and surgical specialties, high dependency unit, ED, A&E, NICU, and outpatients. Successful candidates receive training to support registered nurses and deliver holistic family‑centred care.

Responsibilities
  1. Carry out observations, care and support of babies and older children on the ward.
  2. Assist with feeding, washing, dressing and other personal care tasks.
  3. Provide support to the wider family around the child.
  4. Participate in admission processes under RN supervision.
  5. Deliver individualised personal nursing care and maintain high standards.
  6. Report patient concerns, changes in condition, and clinical emergencies promptly to the RN.
  7. Support and extend your knowledge through additional training and redeployment to other areas as clinical need requires.
  8. Maintain accurate documentation of care delivered, countersigned by an RN and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Good general standard of education.
  • 4 GCSEs at Grade C/3 or above (or equivalent).
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT skills.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Aged 16+.
  • Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years.
  • Not in any form of formal government‑funded education upon the start of the apprenticeship.
  • No qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above.
