Overview
14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship as a Health Care Support Worker in Paediatrics. The post covers Buxton Ward and Children’s Day Ward, with exposure to all medical and surgical specialties, high dependency unit, ED, A&E, NICU, and outpatients. Successful candidates receive training to support registered nurses and deliver holistic family‑centred care.
Responsibilities
- Carry out observations, care and support of babies and older children on the ward.
- Assist with feeding, washing, dressing and other personal care tasks.
- Provide support to the wider family around the child.
- Participate in admission processes under RN supervision.
- Deliver individualised personal nursing care and maintain high standards.
- Report patient concerns, changes in condition, and clinical emergencies promptly to the RN.
- Support and extend your knowledge through additional training and redeployment to other areas as clinical need requires.
- Maintain accurate documentation of care delivered, countersigned by an RN and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications and Skills
- Good general standard of education.
- 4 GCSEs at Grade C/3 or above (or equivalent).
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good IT skills.
Eligibility Criteria
- Aged 16+.
- Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years.
- Not in any form of formal government‑funded education upon the start of the apprenticeship.
- No qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above.
