Job description
Description of what the apprentice will do in their role

We are looking for a motivated Apprentice Furniture Finisher to join our team and train in all areas of spray finishing. This apprenticeship will be provided with hands‑on experience and expert training in preparing, applying various finishes, and specialist finishes for the items made and components of larger projects.

As a Furniture Finishing Apprentice, you will learn the specialist skills involved in preparing, setting up equipment, and finishing a wide range of component materials including bespoke projects requiring a high quality finish.

You’ll work alongside experienced finishers learning how to complete each stage required to the highest of quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

The apprentice will cover all areas of preparing and treating wood and manufactured boards to give it the desired finish as identified in the specification.

This will include sanding and preparing each stage as required to gain the required finish. The application of primer and finish coat will also be done, ensuring the quality of the work meets the standards set by the employer.

The role will also include learning about all relevant health and safety requirements, including health and safety at work act, COSHH, etc.

The role will also include learning about setting out personal standards to ensure quality is measured and assessed accurately and be accountable for the final quality of the items to be passed as correct. They will use paint, lacquer, and top coat.

The learner will be working with an experienced mentor in the spray shop and learn how to become part of a small team meeting targets for work set out by the employer.

No experience is needed – full training will be provided through your apprenticeship provider and day‑to‑day support from the employer and WEBS.

Comprehensive Furniture Finisher Training

During your Standard Level 2 Furniture Finisher apprenticeship programme you will receive training both off and on the job. You will be trained at the employer within the workplace and also at WEBS Training, Beeston Nottingham. In our purpose built finishing area, in partnership with Kortec, on a block basis for a week at a time every 10 weeks, costs are covered by the employer if accommodation and/or travel is required.

You will learn the underpinning knowledge that runs alongside your practical elements of the training. WEBS Training aim to build on the skills you already have so you reach your full potential both personally and professionally.

Training will be provided in all areas of furniture finishing to ensure you can create efficient and quality components using both traditional and modern techniques and materials to produce aesthetically pleasing and fit for purpose finishes.

If you have already achieved GCSE maths and English at Grade 4/C or above or have equivalent qualification you will be exempt from undertaking Functional Skills, however English and maths support will be provided for all apprentices throughout the length of their programme.
