Morrison Construction invites applications for an Apprentice Engineer 2027 in Edinburgh with travel to Glasgow, starting Summer 2027. The award-winning Trainee Development Programme offers hands-on experience, technical skill development and fully funded academic support tailored to you.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in creating a knowingly safe working environment.
  • Coordinate site engineering control, setting out activities and provide information to operatives and subcontractors.
  • General site supervision and management.
  • Complete diary sheets with photographic evidence as required.
  • Undertake material reconciliations.
  • Ensure surveying equipment is calibrated.
  • Carry out as-built surveys and drawings.
  • Produce 2D & 3D site sketches.
  • Maintain quality records and INSPECT/TEST Plans (ITP).
  • Assist in basic planning, monitoring & programming.
  • Control and minimise waste on site.
  • Identify and adopt new processes and innovations on site.

Will you complete a qualification during your apprenticeship?

When you join us as an apprentice, you will:

  • Complete an apprenticeship qualification relevant to the role, to suit your current education level. At the end of the programme, you will gain a nationally recognised qualification in this field as well as learning the practical skills and hands‑on experience in a supportive environment.
  • Join us on our Trainee Development Programme, where you will be given the training and tools to develop your skills through a series of modules over an 18‑month period followed by a graduation event.

We offer apprenticeships from a level 3 to a degree level apprenticeship fully funded by Morrison Construction, tailored to your current education level and course entry requirements.

This role is available for a Summer 2027 start, with the possibility of an earlier start date to suit yourself and the business.

What could your day look like?

Your day to day duties will consist of the below:

  • Participate in creating a knowingly safe working environment.
  • Coordinate site engineering control and setting out activities and provide information to operatives and subcontractors.
  • General site supervision and management
  • Complete diary sheets along with any photographic evidence as required.
  • Undertake material reconciliations.
  • Ensure all surveying equipment is calibrated.
  • Carry out as‑built surveys on complete works and drawings.
  • Produce 2D & 3D site sketches.
  • Assist in maintaining quality records, ensuring all works undertaken in accordance with Inspection & Test Plans (ITP) and maintaining the as‑built records.
  • Assist in basic planning, monitoring & programming.
  • Control and minimise waste on site.
  • Identify/assist in introducing new process, techniques and innovations on site.
  • Ensure all company property under your control is taken care of and stored securely when not in use

As part of the apprenticeship programme you will be expected to work in and around the location advertised, with the possibility for expanding travel to other projects and locations in the future. This may include staying away from home.

What are we looking for?

To qualify for the apprenticeship study requirements, you must have eligibility to live and work in the UK without restriction and achieve the minimum entry requirements to enrol onto an apprenticeship course related to the role you are applying for.
