Job summary

A leading aerospace company in Stevenage is seeking apprentices for a hands-on programme where you will gain comprehensive experience in satellite production. Over the course of this three-year apprenticeship, you will learn to manufacture spacecraft panels and apply advanced production techniques. No strict entry requirements exist, though a Grade 3 in Maths and English is desirable. The company will provide all necessary training, and legal authorization to work in the UK is required.

Job description
Airbus Defence & Space Apprenticeship

Start date: September 2026

Location: Stevenage

Duration: 3 years

During the Apprenticeship you will experience different production areas, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how a satellite is manufactured at Airbus Defence & Space. You will work in small teams or on a one‑to‑one basis to manufacture spacecraft panels, perform mirror bonding and treatments, and use advanced production techniques.

  • Panel Assembly – installation of various panel features (potting inserts, riveting, edge taping)
  • Final Assembly – installation of panel features including Ty‑bases, MLI studs, connector brackets & cleats, and brackets using laser technology
  • Heat Pipe Installation – at extremely tight tolerances up to 0.C cutting mirrors with diamond tip pens to extreme accuracy
  • Application of surface finishes – aerospace approved primers and paints

Qualifications and requirements:

  • No strict entry requirements for college; a Grade 3 in Maths and English would be desirable.
  • No prior experience required – we provide all the training you need.
  • Applicants must be eligible under current Apprenticeship funding rules and may need to obtain UK SC‑level Security Clearance or Export Control clearance.
  • Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work in the United Kingdom for the full duration of the programme.
