Job summary

The Nursery School Brighton is offering an Apprentice Educator position. You will work as part of a team to support the nursery while studying towards a Level 3 Childcare qualification.

The role includes helping with learning activities, liaising with parents, observing children's development, and following policies. Working 30 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with on-the-job training and a 20% off-the-job learning allocation.

Qualifications

• Experience with children aged 0–5 preferred but not essential.
• GCSE English/Maths level 4+ preferred but not essential.
• Commitment to learning and professional development.
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow guidance.

Responsibilities

• Work within the nursery ethos to provide a warm, welcoming environment.
• Support well-being and access to learning for all children, including those with additional needs.
• Assist with planning and preparation of activities; liaise with parents.
• Support learning experiences to build confidence and independence.
• Nurture positive relationships and model appropriate behaviour.
• Record observations and assist with assessment of children's development.
• Supervise meals and prepare bottles for babies as needed.
• Follow Allergies, Sleep, and inclusion policies to safeguard children.
• Be a reliable, flexible team member and work as directed by the Manager.
• Work 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, shifts to be confirmed.

Job description

As an Apprentice Educator at The Nursery School Brighton you will work as a team to help support the nursery as it grows into a truly fascinating setting for our children, whilst studying towards a Level 3 Childcare qualification.

Responsibilities

• To work within the ethos of our Nurseries and provide a warm, welcoming and stimulating environment, where children feel secure.
• With the guidance of the Senior and Qualified practitioners to ensure the well-being, care of all the children and support their access to learning (including those with additional needs).
• To assist with the planning and preparation of activities, to meet children's individual needs, liaising with parents and negotiating working targets ensuring effective communication within the nursery.
• To assist in providing learning experiences that challenge and enable children to grow in confidence and independence within a stimulating environment.
• To nurture positive relationships and role modelling positive behaviour with children ensuring their emotional well-being to promote their confidence and self-esteem.
• To assist in the recording of observation, assessment, monitoring, and record keeping of children's learning and development using a variety of methods and to inform planning.
• Supervisions of meals and mealtimes, and where appropriate additional preparation of food/bottles for babies to ensure safer eating.
• To adhere at all times to the Allergies and Allergic Reactions Policy as well as the Sleep Policy to safeguard children with allergies and whilst sleeping.
• To understand and promote inclusion and equality policies and procedures.
• To be a reliable member of the team, working co-operatively and with flexibility.
• To work flexible hours as requested by the Manager.
• Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Manager and The Company Directors.

Experience with children aged 0-5 years preferred but not essential. GCSE Level 4 or above in English and/or Maths is preferred but not essential.

Training to be Provided

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.

Apprenticeship Standard

You will be working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard, which includes:

• Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
• Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator
• Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid
• Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
