Job description
Apprentice - Carpenter & Joinery

Salary: £16,000 | Contract: FTC (36 Months) | Type: Full Time | Hours: 40 hours per week | Location: Welsh Government - Cardiff - Oak Tree Court

Learning fundamental carpentry and joinery skills including cutting, shaping and assembling wood and other materials to create structures and fixtures.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with routine maintenance and repair tasks such as doors, windows and frameworks.
  • Work alongside your mentor to gain hands‑on experience on your client site.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) standards, prioritising safety and sustainability.

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery qualification which normally runs for 24 months. You will be fully supported by our partnered college, attending 1‑day per week to achieve this qualification by receiving 1‑2‑1 advice and support, e‑learning materials, and support from a whole team of experts at your office.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades 4‑9 or equivalent) or Scottish National 5 certificates (Grade A‑C); certificates must be provided at the interview stage.
  • A keen interest in the chosen field.
  • The ability to think critically and find solutions.
  • Dedication to completing the apprenticeship and growing with Mitie.
  • No prior experience required; enthusiasm and willingness to learn are essential.
