Harpenden Building Society is seeking a motivated and ambitious individual to join our Finance Department as an Assistant Financial Accountant (Apprenticeship). This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands‑on experience, develop core accounting skills, and build a strong foundation for your future professional success. About the Role

As an Apprentice Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting our finance team with day‑to‑day financial processes and administrative tasks.

  • Process purchase invoices and maintain accurate records using our finance systems
  • Assist with sales invoicing and credit control processes
  • Support the reconciliation of bank statements and petty cash
  • Help prepare financial documents, spreadsheets, and reports
  • Provide support with month‑end and year‑end finance tasks
  • Carry out general administration to ensure the smooth running of the finance function
What We Are Looking For
  • A minimum of three A‑levels or equivalent, with at least one being maths or a science. These should ideally be grade B or above
  • A keen interest in finance, numbers, and business
  • An appetite to study and qualify
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to thrive in a busy, fast‑paced team environment
  • Exceptional organisational skills and a detail‑oriented approach
  • High standard of written and spoken English
  • Confident and strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise directly with colleagues and suppliers
  • IT savvy, ideally with Microsoft 365 experience, or the ability to learn quickly on the job
  • A proactive approach and the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines
