Job summary

PA Consulting is seeking an Applied Chemistry Consultant to join its Applied Sciences team. The role blends hands-on laboratory experimentation with analytical thinking to solve real-world challenges across energy, manufacturing, healthcare and other sectors.

You will work alongside chemists, engineers and other specialists, translating scientific findings into practical recommendations for clients and colleagues. Early career to PhD levels are welcome depending on experience.

Qualifications

• You are likely to have a degree, MSc or PhD in: Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
• You should have experience in several of the following areas: Hands-on laboratory experimentation; Experimental design and practical problem solving; Chemical analysis and characterisation; Materials or formulation development; Surface, interface or materials chemistry; Process development, scale-up or manufacturing-related chemistry; Analytical techniques; Development of laboratory equipment, test rigs, analytical instruments or emerging technologies; Data analysis and interpretation of experimental results; Troubleshooting complex technical problems; Communicating scientific findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan and carry out laboratory experiments to investigate chemical systems, materials, products or processes.
• Analyse, interpret and communicate experimental and technical data.
• Apply chemical principles to solve complex, ambiguous or unfamiliar technical problems.
• Support the development, testing and assessment of new technologies, products, materials or processes.
• Contribute to technical reports, presentations, proposals and client deliverables.
• Translate scientific findings into clear, practical recommendations for colleagues and clients.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues from other science and engineering disciplines, as well as sector specialist backgrounds.
