Applications Engineer

Location: Wakefield

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00-16:30, Friday 8:00-13:30 (half-day finish)

We're seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to join a successful and growing engineering business based in Wakefield. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong mechanical or electrical background and a passion for providing technical solutions to customer needs.

The Role

As an Applications Engineer, you'll be responsible for preparing and delivering high-quality technical quotations and equipment proposals. You'll work closely with customers, sales, and internal departments to ensure solutions are accurate, competitive, and meet project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Select pumping and mechanical equipment based on customer specifications.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and quotations using in-house tools.
  • Calculate pipe friction losses and produce system curves.
  • Provide technical input and support for bespoke engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with Area Sales Managers, attending sites and customer meetings when required.
  • Maintain accurate data and documentation in line with company standards.
  • Support colleagues across departments with technical advice.
About You
  • HNC/D or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of centrifugal pumps, performance curves, and system design.
  • Experience in estimating, quotation preparation, or project engineering within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and IT skills (ERP systems & MS Office).
  • Customer-focused, detail-oriented, and a strong team player.
