Job description

The role of the Application Engineer Lead is to manage the Applications Team Engineers in order to meet business priorities when maintaining the suite of applications across multiple domains supporting Geospatial capability. Responsibilities
  • Allocate and prioritise the applications team’s workload to manage and maintain the Application Baseline across multiple domains.
  • Produce and maintain Workflow Processes for the Applications Team, considering improvement throughout the team’s development.
  • Attend Daily Operational Update Meetings.
  • Produce and present a Core Services Weekly Report on tasking within the Application Team and relay that report to Management on a weekly basis.
  • Coordinate the priority of tasking to achieve larger elements of work to be completed.
  • Provide support to Core Services and Agile Change Teams ensuring the application baseline is maintained and the operational users have the most up‑to‑date applications to meet mission requirements.
  • Liaise with all appropriate teams to ensure a seamless flow of information not just with 2nd and 3rd Line engineers but across the wider organisation, including sub‑contractor SMEs and customer Resolver groups.
  • Under the direction of the Operations Technical Lead coordinate the maintenance and delivery of small and large application upgrades for a fixed and deployed environment.
  • Provide clients with technical support as needed and relay information to our development teams for ongoing maintenance and update needs.
  • Integrate with ITAM and obsolescence management to provide vendor information on software lifecycles and maintenance agreements.
  • Optimize applications by integrating new technologies and performing upgrades.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and debugging procedures while improving code and re‑designing tasks.
  • Generate ideas for software innovation based on market trends.
  • Document and develop processes, procedures and application version histories.
  • Keep up with advancements in application engineering and new technologies.
  • Enhance Leidos’s relationship with MOD, Military and other contractors.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of problems relating to application deployment.

  • Support the deployment of any software application or patch that ensures the system maintains accreditation by managing MODCERT alerts and directives, ensuring that all those that are relevant are applied. If the MODCERT is not applied, then a risk is raised and placed on the MOD risk register with good reasoning as to why the MODCERT was not applied.
  • Ensure the FSR is managed and maintained accurately.

  • Contributory Pension Scheme
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • 33 days of annual leave (including public and privilege holidays)
  • Access to flexible benefits (including life assurance, health schemes, gym memberships, annual buy and sell holidays and a cycle to work scheme)
