A leading aerospace firm is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to support Apache AH-64E aircraft safety activities. Key responsibilities include conducting safety analysis, hazard assessment, and developing safety arguments. Candidates must have a background in safety engineering, sound knowledge of safety standards, and the ability to obtain SC clearance. This is an onsite role with flexible working hours.

Qualifications

  • Background in safety engineering in a safety-critical sector.
  • Knowledge of safety standards like Def Stan 00-056, MIL-STD-882E.
  • Experience with safety assessment reports using Fault Tree Analysis and Bowtie method.
  • Experience in applying safety and risk engineering processes.
  • Ability to develop safety arguments and cases using GSN or CAE.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • UK National able to attain SC clearance.

Job description
Role Overview

As a Senior Safety Engineer, your role will be to perform safety engineering and safety management activities in support of the Apache AH-64E aircraft, and maintenance and training services provided by BDUK to the UK MOD.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct system safety analysis through the application of appropriate regulatory requirements, legislation, tools and techniques.
  • Interface/liaise with systems engineers, specialty engineering functions, customers and suppliers throughout the development lifecycle regarding safety.
  • Perform hazard analysis to define safety requirements and detailed systems analysis, to demonstrate that safety requirements can be met.
  • Develop safety arguments and draft safety cases to support assurance and certification activities, including identification of appropriate evidence to show safety arguments are reasonable, well-constructed and justified.
  • Identify and create evidence to support assurance of equipment and services, using safety related activities to support the traceability of safety requirements, to implementation and operation.
  • Occasional UK and International Travel may be required.
  • Flexible working arrangements can be agreed.
Qualifications
  • A background in safety engineering gained in a safety-critical sector or regulated environment e.g aerospace, defence automotive, rail, maritime.
  • Sound knowledge of common safety standards e.g Def Stan 00-056, MIL-STD-882E, ARP 4761.
  • Demonstrable experience producing safety assessment reports and other artefacts through the application of associated safety assessment techniques e.g Fault Tree Analysis, Bowtie analysis etc…
  • Demonstrable experience of the application of safety and risk engineering processes to identify hazards and vulnerabilities, assess risk and implement controls to reduce risk to an acceptable level e.g. FHA, SSA, CCA (ZSA, PRA, CMA).
  • Knowledge and experience of developing safety arguments and safety cases including the use of Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) or Claims Argument Evidence (CAE).
  • Ability to build effective and strong working with clients and colleagues. To work effectively, professionally and proactively with people, in face-to-face meetings and through interaction by video calls, telephone and email.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • "Bachelor's degree in a relevant field".
  • The candidate is required to be a UK National and able to attain SC clearance. Essential to be able to obtain UK SC security clearance.
