About Anthony Nolan

Each day, Anthony Nolan matches incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to those who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. It all began in 1974 whenShirley Nolan’s three-year-old son, Anthony, was in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant. Shirley set up the world’s first donor registerto find a match, and with it, the Anthnoy Nolan charity.Since then, Anthony Nolan has been leading the way in helping people across the world who need stem cell transplants, and, right now, giving four people every day a second chance at life.

Everyyear, Anthony Nolanfacilitatesaround 1,100 UK and 300 international stem cell transplants. However, a global shortage of cell collection facilities has led to growing delayswithonly 1 in 5 UK-aligned donors in 2022–23 could donate on the requested date.To help tackle the shortage, Anthony Nolan has opened a dedicated Cell Collection Centre in Nottingham, increasingtimelyaccess to donations and easingpressure on theNHS. It means more donations can happen on the right day, which can be critical for patients awaiting treatment.
