Animal Licensing Officer

Location: Hertfordshire

Rate: £35–£40 per hour (Umbrella)

Contract: 3–6 months

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days on-site / 2 days from home

Are you an experienced Animal Licensing Officer looking for your next contract? This Hertfordshire-based council is seeking a confident and knowledgeable professional to support their busy Environmental Health & Licensing team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out inspections of premises requiring licences under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018.
  • Assess compliance, prepare inspection reports, and recommend appropriate licensing decisions.
  • Provide expert advice to businesses and the public on licensing requirements.
  • Investigate complaints and follow up on non-compliance.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure high standards of animal welfare across the district.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience delivering animal licensing inspections within a local authority setting.
  • Level 3 qualification in inspecting/licensing animal activities (or equivalent recognised competency).
  • Strong working knowledge of the relevant legislation and DEFRA guidance.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage your own caseload and work independently.
