Job summary

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland in Edinburgh is seeking an Animal Keeper to assist from the Team Leader and Senior Keeper, delivering high standards of animal welfare and engaging visitors with live animal activities.

You will maintain records on ZIMS, support the Animal Engagement Programme, and help with enclosure design and enrichment while upholding the charity’s mission and visitor safety. Pro-rated salary £23,868–£24,378, with progression.

Qualifications

• Good level of education at standard grade or equivalent qualifications (including English, Mathematics and Sciences).
• Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• First-class customer service and ability to engage with the public.
• Demonstrate interest in animals with some practical zoo experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain animal welfare and husbandry to high standard.
• Follow animal working procedures.
• Contribute to enclosure design, maintenance, enrichment and furnishings for the animal and public engagement.
• Engage with and support visitors with accurate messaging in line with RZSS mission.
• Record detailed and accurate animal data via daily records and ZIMS.
• Support delivery of the Animal Engagement and Interaction Programme, including keeper experiences and events.
• When required, train animals to cooperate in their own care for visitor engagement.
