Job summary

Methods Business and Digital Technology Limited is seeking talented Android Developers to join a digital delivery team building services that impact people across the UK.

You will design, develop and maintain robust Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and modern patterns, collaborating with designers, product managers and QA in an agile environment, with opportunities for mentoring and ongoing learning.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin.
• Good understanding of the Android SDK and development ecosystem.
• Experience developing with modern Android patterns and practices.
• Experience working with APIs and integrating mobile apps with backend services.
• Experience with automated testing (unit & UI).
• Experience using Git and modern workflows.
• Understanding of clean code, modularity, maintainability and version control.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving app defects and performance issues.

We are looking for talented Android Developers to join a digital delivery team working on services that make a real difference to people across the UK.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of developers, designers, product managers, delivery professionals and technical specialists to build, improve and maintain high-quality digital services used by millions of people.

You will be responsible for developing robust, accessible and user-centred Android applications, contributing to technical decisions and helping to maintain high standards of software engineering across the team.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high-quality Android applications using Kotlin.
• Translate user and business requirements into reliable, maintainable technical solutions.
• Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code following modern Android development practices.
• Work collaboratively with designers, product managers, QA professionals and other developers within an agile multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in technical discussions, code reviews and architectural decision-making.
• Develop automated tests and contribute to continuous integration and delivery processes.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues, defects and performance problems.
• Consider security, accessibility, privacy, resilience and performance throughout the development lifecycle.
• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.

• Keep up to date with developments across the Android and wider mobile technology ecosystem.

Requirements

Essential technical skills

Candidates should have demonstrable professional experience with:

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin.
• Good understanding of the Android SDK and Android development ecosystem.
• Experience developing applications using modern Android development patterns and practices.
• Experience working with APIs and integrating mobile applications with backend services.
• Experience with automated testing, including unit and UI testing.
• Experience using Git and modern software development workflows.
• Understanding of software engineering principles including clean code, modularity, maintainability and version control.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving application defects and performance issues.
• Experience with Java and maintaining or modernising existing Java codebases.
