Job summary

Sainsbury's Store Analytics team is seeking an Analytics Engineer in London to transform data into trusted insights that inform business decisions. You’ll design, build and maintain scalable data models, pipelines and datasets powering analytics, reporting and performance monitoring.

Qualifications

• Experience with SQL, DBT and cloud-based platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Strong data modelling and dimensional modelling knowledge.
• Experience with BI tools (Looker, Power BI, Tableau) and data quality testing.

About the Role

As an Analytics Engineer, you’ll play an important role in transforming data into trusted, accessible insights that help drive decision-making across the business. Working within a collaborative, cross-functional data team, you’ll help design, build and maintain scalable data models, pipelines and reporting-ready datasets that power analytics, operational reporting and business performance monitoring.

You’ll work with modern data technologies including SQL, DBT and cloud-based platforms to deliver reliable, well-structured data solutions. Partnering closely with Product Managers, Analysts, Data Engineers and business stakeholders, you’ll help ensure data is accurate, governed and readily available to those who need it.

This role sits within a high-impact data platform team responsible for sales and transaction data across Sainsbury’s, Tu and Argos, providing the foundations for critical reporting, analysis and strategic decision-making.

What You’ll Do

• Build and maintain robust data models using DBT and SQL
• Develop and optimise data transformations to support analytics and reporting use cases
• Work with Data Engineers to ensure reliable and scalable data pipelines
• Support data quality monitoring, testing and validation processes
• Contribute to documentation, governance and best practices across the analytics platform
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Analysts and Engineers to deliver business value
• Investigate data issues and support continuous improvement of datasets and reporting assets
• Contribute to CI/CD processes and engineering standards across the team
• Strong SQL skills with experience building and optimising analytical datasets
• Commercial experience using DBT to develop and manage data transformations
• Good understanding of data modelling principles, including dimensional modelling and analytical data structures
• Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and modern data warehousing practices
• Experience working with version control tools such as Git
• Knowledge of data quality, testing and validation approaches
• Ability to work collaboratively within Agile delivery teams
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Excellent communication skills and confidence working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Exposure to Python for data transformation or automation activities
• Experience working with AWS services such as S3, Glue or Lambda
• Understanding of orchestration tools such as Airflow
• Experience with Looker, Power BI, Tableau or similar BI tools
• Exposure to CI/CD practices within data environments
• Knowledge of data observability and monitoring tools
• Experience supporting data products within a retail or eCommerce environment
• Build trusted, high-quality datasets that enable better business decisions
• Partner effectively with analysts, engineers and stakeholders to understand and solve business challenges
• Apply strong analytical thinking to identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation
• Take ownership of delivering reliable, maintainable solutions within your product area
• Continuously develop your technical skills and contribute to team learning and best practices
• Balance speed of delivery with quality, governance and long-term maintainability
