Job summary

Babcock International is offering an undergraduate placement year in Science and Analytical Chemistry, based at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth. The role provides hands-on training in Chemistry and Radiochemistry within UKAS-accredited laboratories, with a pro rata salary of £26,800 for the placement year.

Starting September 2027, the programme combines lab work and site experience, building practical skills in water and oils chemistry, radionuclide analysis, and safe handling of materials.

Qualifications

• You must be studying towards an undergraduate degree in a science-based subject.
• Degrees with Chemistry, Chemical, Environmental, or Science/Sciences in the title are acceptable.
• Live within commutable distance or be willing to relocate.
• Security clearance requirements may apply (BPSS, SC, NNPPI).

Responsibilities

• Work in UKAS-accredited laboratories in Chemistry and Radiochemistry.
• Gain experience in water chemistry, oils chemistry, confined space testing and radionuclide analysis.
• Develop practical expertise using specialist equipment and apply chemical analysis to support safety of Royal Navy vessels.
• Some days in the laboratory, others in the dockyard to understand operations.
