Job summary

Sonoco is seeking an analytical chemist to provide expertise across products, manufacturing, suppliers and customers. You will investigate technical challenges, generate high-quality data and deliver clear recommendations to support business decisions and customer satisfaction.

You will lead investigations, develop methods, and interpret complex information to improve testing capabilities and problem-solving across the R&D function.

Qualifications

• Requires a BSc in Chemistry or equivalent with analytical focus.
• Experience in analytical chemistry laboratories or food chemistry labs.
• Proficient with IC and ICP-OES techniques and data handling.
• Familiar with GCMS, DSC and FTIR instruments.
• Strong communication and data reporting skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and in teams with safety focus.
• Experience mentoring junior staff or apprentices is a plus.
• Higher degree with analytical chemistry focus is beneficial.
• Experience in contract laboratory environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide analytical chemistry expertise and technical support across the business.
• Lead investigations to resolve technical issues and customer complaints.
• Develop and improve analytical methods and processes.
• Conduct food, water analysis and regulatory compliance projects.
• Generate accurate, reliable, traceable data using laboratory techniques.
• Interpret results and produce reports with findings and recommendations.
• Maintain calibrated laboratory equipment and records for traceability.
• Support housekeeping, quality standards and continuous improvement.
• Mentor and train colleagues and apprentices.
• Manage sample workflows and ensure procedure compliance.
