Job summary

Intertek in Wilton, UK seeks an Analyst for its Food Contact team to perform practical laboratory testing ensuring packaging and materials meet UK, European and international food contact requirements.

You will handle migration testing, wet chemistry and analytical work across plastics, metals and ceramics, with training and a clear path to progression within a global testing, inspection and certification organisation.

Qualifications

• A degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline.
• A sound understanding of chemistry and broad awareness of analytical techniques gained through academic study or employment.
• Practical laboratory experience gained during your degree or through work; wet chemistry, titrations or gravimetric analysis would be beneficial.
• A proactive approach, with the confidence to use initiative and take responsibility for your work.
• Good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and work accurately to deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality records and reports.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Computer literacy, including the ability to work with laboratory data and prepare clear written information.
• Knowledge of food contact regulations, EU or FDA methods, or ISO 17025 would be advantageous, but full training will be provided Intertek operates a preferred supplier arrangement, and we do not accept unsolicited approaches from agencies

Responsibilities

• Prepare samples and carry out food contact compliance testing using established EU and FDA methods
• Perform migration testing, wet chemistry and chemical analysis in accordance with approved procedures
• Record and report results accurately in line with Intertek quality standards and ISO 17025 requirements
• Provide the Delivery Manager, Regulatory team and Project Managers with timely updates on laboratory work
• Prepare clear written reports within agreed timescales to meet customer requirements
• Plan and organise practical laboratory activities across a varied and deadline-driven workload
• Follow laboratory quality, health and safety procedures and contribute to a proactive safety culture
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet client priorities and support the wider Food Contact service
• Complete the required technical training and take an active approach to your ongoing development
• The position requires a practical and motivated chemistry graduate who takes pride in accurate work, enjoys learning new techniques and can contribute positively within a busy laboratory team.

As an Analyst in our Food Contact team, you'll carry out practical laboratory testing that helps customers demonstrate that packaging and other materials comply with UK, European and international food contact requirements. The work is varied and spans two laboratories. You'll support migration testing, wet chemistry and chemical analysis across materials including plastics, metals, alloys and ceramics. You may also contribute to substance identification work for REACH, pharmacopoeial testing, spot tests and other analytical projects as required. You'll begin with a comprehensive training programme based on your existing knowledge and experience. As your capability develops, you'll take on greater responsibility and may have the opportunity to join our Scientist Development Programme. This permanent, full-time role is based at our Wilton site and offers an excellent platform to develop within an established global testing, inspection and certification organisation. Previous industry experience is not essential. We're particularly interested in the scientific foundation and practical laboratory experience you've gained through your degree, together with examples of using initiative, organising your work and taking responsibility.
