Job summary

EMED Group in Crewe is looking for an Ambulance Care Assistant to join the crew on a bank (0 hour) contract. You’ll support patients and transport them to appointments with compassionate care.

The role pays £12.71 per hour and includes uniform provided. You’ll need a full UK driving licence with few penalty points, be an effective communicator, and be physically fit for patient handling. DBS check is company funded.

Qualifications

  • Hold a full UK Manual driving licence with less than 6 penalty points.
  • Committed to patient care and able to communicate in emotional situations.
  • Calm, considerate driver with a team-focused mindset.
  • Be physically fit for patient handling and lifting.
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check (company funded).
  • Familiar with the local and surrounding area.

Responsibilities

  • Transport elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from medical appointments and between facilities.
  • Assist in transporting end-of-life service users with empathy.
  • Build rapport by communicating effectively with patients and relatives.
  • Assist with lifting, securing and moving patients in the Ambulance.
  • Hand over patients to staff on arrival at treatment centres or to families.
  • Transfer patients between beds and stretchers, in hospital and during flights.
  • Assist service users with challenging behaviour and mental health needs.
  • Ensure the ambulance is kept safe, clean and tidy.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Ambulance Care Assistant to serve your local community and join the Ambulance Service as part of our Ambulance crew based in Crewe on a bank (0 hour) contract

An Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) is a hugely rewarding and fulfilling role. Each day, you’ll be helping someone in need, making their lives that little bit easier, and knowing that you make a difference to their day provides you with a real sense of achievement.

Other duties include:

  • Transporting elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from their medical appointments and between healthcare facilities.
  • Assisting in the transportation of ‘end of life’ service users, ensuring a high level of empathy is present at all times
  • Building rapport by effectively communicating with patients and their relatives/friends
  • Responsible for lifting, securing and helping service users in and out of the Ambulance
  • Assist with the handing over of patients to appropriate staff on arrival at treatment centres/hospital’s or to family/friends at their homes.
  • Transfer patients from beds to stretchers, chairs to chairs or similar both in and out of hospital and medical/commercial flights.
  • Assisting service users with challenging behaviour and/or mental health illnesses
  • Ensuring that the ambulance is kept safe, clean and tidy

To be considered as an ACA, you will need to be:

  • Hold a full UK Manual driving licence with less than 6 penalty points
  • Committed to patient care
  • An effective communicator and experience of communicating with others in what can often be emotional circumstances
  • To be a calm, considerate, careful driver
  • To have a natural flair for team working and collaboration
  • Be physically fit for patient handling and moving
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check (company funded)
  • Familiar with the local and surrounding area
