Job summary

Babcock International Group is seeking an Airfield Operations Assistant to support safe and efficient airfield operations at Middle Wallop Aerodrome. This outdoor, hands-on role involves inspections, FOD checks, wildlife management, and vehicle maintenance within a defence environment.

You'll work 40 hours a week, with potential weekend shifts, and gain specialist airfield knowledge through training. Security clearance is required to join the team.

Qualifications

• Experience in airfield or aerodrome operations.
• Knowledge of airfield safety procedures and reporting requirements.
• Experience using operational vehicles or safety-critical equipment.
• Proficient with MS Outlook/Word/Excel.
• Strong communication and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct airfield escort duties across the aerodrome.
• Carry out Foreign Object Debris (FOD) inspections, sweeping, collection and disposal.
• Support wildlife hazard management using non-lethal methods.
• Inspect airfield infrastructure and grounds, report faults and safety concerns.
• Maintain airfield vehicles and equipment, including cleaning, refuelling and documentation.

The role

As an Airfield Operations Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting the safe and effective operation of Middle Wallop Aerodrome. Working as part of a dedicated aviation team, you'll help maintain a safe operating environment for military and civilian airfield activities, supporting everything from airfield inspections and wildlife management to infrastructure checks and operational support.

This is a hands-on, outdoor role where no two days are the same. You'll have the opportunity to develop specialist airfield knowledge, receive training, and contribute directly to aviation safety within a unique defence environment.

• Conducting airfield escort duties across the aerodrome.
• Carrying out Foreign Object Debris (FOD) inspections, sweeping, collection and disposal activities.
• Supporting wildlife hazard management activities using non-lethal control methods.
• Inspecting airfield infrastructure and grounds, reporting faults and safety concerns.
• Maintaining airfield vehicles and equipment, including cleaning, refuelling and documentation.

This role is full time working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00. Occasional weekend working may be required.

Essential experience of the Airfield Operations Assistant:

• Experience working within airfield or aerodrome operations.
• Understanding of airfield safety procedures and reporting requirements.
• Experience using operational vehicles or specialist equipment in a safety-critical environment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications for the Airfield Operations Assistant:

• Full UK Category B Driving Licence with a minimum of one year's driving experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Airfield Access Permit.
• No colour perception issues.
• Wildlife control experience would be advantageous.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) / Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) security clearance for this role.
