Job summary

Graphcore in Bristol is seeking a Research Engineer to advance AI research, turning ML ideas into scalable hardware-aware implementations. You will work with researchers and engineers across software and silicon to push the limits of AI compute and contribute to publications and projects.

Ideal candidates hold a Master’s or PhD in a technical field and have strong Python, C++/CUDA, and ML experiment design skills, with experience in PyTorch or JAX and hardware-aware optimization.

Qualifications

• Master’s, PhD or equivalent in a technical discipline (e.g., Maths, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics).
• Strong Python programming in a modern deep learning framework (PyTorch or JAX).
• Experience with deep learning fundamentals: models, optimisation, evaluation and scaling.
• Lower-level programming for hardware efficiency (C++/CUDA/Triton).
• Familiarity with hardware capabilities for deep learning — threads, caches, vector and matrix engines, data dependencies.
• Experience submitting papers to international conferences or workshops.

Responsibilities

• Generate AI/ML ideas, design experiments, implement them & evaluate results.
• Prepare, submit & present your work to AI conferences and workshops.
• Provide technical insight to internal teams by designing experiments and delivering clear, actionable reports.
• Collaborate with researchers, silicon and software engineers at Graphcore to help define, build and test Graphcore’s next generation of AI hardware.
