Job summary

Roke Manor Research Ltd in Romsey, Hampshire, is seeking a Senior AI/ML/Computer Vision Engineer to lead hands-on research and development across AI, ML and computer vision disciplines.

You'll mentor junior engineers, contribute to early-stage client discussions, and help define solutions and bids, including task estimation. The role blends challenging R&D with real-world impact across national security, defence and commercial markets.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in AI/ML/Computer Vision R&D including detection, classification, segmentation and NLP/LLMs.
• Experience adapting academic AI/ML research into deployable, real-world end-user solutions.
• Experience in Industrial Inspection domain, particularly Aerospace or high-value manufacturing.
• Experience combining 2D/3D vision with modern 3D rendering, point clouds, or data simulation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver novel AI/ML/Computer Vision solutions for technically complex or novel research problems.
• Take a leading technical role within teams delivering both small, early-stage research projects and larger multi-disciplinary programmes.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Support business-winning efforts by contributing to early-stage client interactions and leading technical bids, including defining solutions and estimating tasks.

As a Senior AI/ML/Computer Vision Engineer, you will be an experienced researcher or developer with a strong interest in state-of-the-art AI, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision technologies.

The Senior AI/ML/Computer Vision Engineer is responsible for delivering novel solutions to our customers challenging problems (Technically Complex or Novel Research), delivering within and taking a leading technical role within teams of engineers in delivering a mixture of small, early-stage research projects and algorithmic components of larger, multi-disciplinary development programmes.

As our next Senior AI/ML/Computer Vision Engineer, you'll be primarily "hands on" and actively providing technical expertise across a broad range of AI/ML and Computer Vision disciplines, including 2D/3D computer vision, Reinforcement Learning, LLMs and NLP.

The Key Requirements:

• Proven experience in AI/ML/Computer Vision R&D (e.g. detection, classification, segmentation, forward/backward projection, measurement, reinforcement learning, NLP, also including Large Language Models).
• Significant experience conceiving novel applications of AI/ML techniques, particularly adapting and applying academic research, and developing and maturing a set of capabilities towards deployable solutions for real-world end-user applications.
• Experience in any aspect of the Industrial Inspection domain (specifically within an Aerospace or high value manufacturing setting).
• Experience in combining skillsets in 2D/3D vision with modern 3D rendering techniques (such as 3D rendering or reconstruction, working with point clouds, and/or data simulation).
