Qualifications

• Production experience building LLM-based agents or services (production-ready).
• Strong software engineering fundamentals including automated testing and CI/CD.
• Experience with cloud platforms, ideally AWS.

Role: AI Engineer

Location: Wilmslow / Remote (UK)

Role Purpose

This is a hands-on role in our AI team, building the AI agents and shared services that change how Citation works. You will build the capabilities our engineering teams, and the wider business, use every day: agents that take on real work, and the shared building blocks that make new ones quick to create.

You will build on our AI platform, and you will hold what you ship to a high standard, proving it works rather than assuming it does.

The right person has shipped AI into production, cares about the people who use what they build, and wants to help shape how a large group works with AI.

Key Responsibilities

Build AI Agents and Services

• Design and build AI agents and shared AI services, from first idea to production.
• Use retrieval, tool use and structured outputs to make agents reliable and useful.
• Work closely with the teams who will use what you build, so it solves real problems.

Prove It Works

• Write evaluations alongside everything you build, and use them to guide every change.
• Monitor what you have built once it is live, and act when quality changes.

Engineering Practice

• Write clean, tested and secure code, and take an active part in code review.
• Build on the shared AI platform, and help improve it as you learn what works.
• Build with observability in mind from the start.

AI-Native Engineering

• Use AI agents as part of how you design, build and test.
• Bring a critical eye to AI-generated output, and verify quality before anything ships.

Collaboration and Growth

• Share what you learn through pairing, code review and day-to-day conversation.
• Stay current with a fast-moving field and bring new ideas back to the team.

Required Experience and Skills

Technical

• Production experience building LLM-based agents or services.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including automated testing and CI/CD.
• Experience with cloud platforms, ideally AWS.

AI-Native Engineering Practice

• Demonstrable experience using AI as a genuine part of your engineering workflow.
• Comfortable working with AI-generated output critically, and taking responsibility for what ships.

Nice to Have

• Amazon Bedrock or AgentCore.
