A leading agricultural education provider in Bridgwater is seeking a Practical Instructor to deliver engaging livestock practical sessions. Cannington College is seeking a passionate and skilled Practical Instructor to join our Agriculture team, delivering high-quality livestock practical sessions that inspire and equip students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in the agricultural industry.
Full time, term time only.
Salary -£28,936- £30,762 per annum (Actual) £32,350 - £34,392 per annum FTE *Plus 20.3% Employer pension Contribution
As a Practical Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring students develop and demonstrate industry best practice in livestock handling, husbandry, and welfare. You will support learners in gaining the practical competencies required by their qualifications, while also nurturing their employability and progression potential.
A key aspect of this role is working collaboratively with the curriculum team and farm staff to ensure that practical learning is aligned with qualification requirements and curriculum priorities. You will help maximise opportunities for student‑centred teaching, learning, and assessment, ensuring that every session is purposeful, engaging, and reflective of real‑world agricultural standards.
To ensure students gain meaningful, hands‑on experience in key areas such as milking, feeding, and livestock husbandry, this role includes a rotational shift pattern for a set number of weeks (typically x15 weeks of the academic year). During these weeks, post holders will work either:
These shifts are designed to mirror real industry working patterns and provide students with authentic, immersive learning experiences. For the remaining weeks of the academic year and administration weeks, the standard working hours will be 08:30 – 17:00 (Monday to Thursday) and 08:30 - 16:30 on Fridays.
