Job summary

Grosvenor is seeking an Agricultural Mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of machinery across Grosvenor Farms, from tractors to harvesters. The role combines workshop and field work to ensure high uptime and adherence to safety and asset-care standards.

The successful candidate will have experience with agricultural machinery maintenance, a full UK driving licence, and qualifications in mechanical or agricultural engineering or welding/fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across agricultural and construction machinery, diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults and implementing effective repairs.
• Support preventative maintenance programmes through routine inspection of machinery, identifying wear, defects and emerging issues, and maintaining accurate service records.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment, manage parts and consumables, and contribute to efficient planning of maintenance activities.
• Work in accordance with Grosvenor Farms health, safety and environmental policies, using PPE and ensuring compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with farm teams to ensure machinery availability and provide practical support during key seasonal operations.

Grosvenor Farms stewards 6,000 acres on the Eaton Estate, milking 2,650 cows while growing forage and grain as feed. The farm operates a circular economy approach, recycling manures back into the arable system to reduce reliance on imported inputs. It is also investing in a gas-to-grid AD plant, which will improve nutrient efficiency, further lower crop input requirements and create an additional revenue stream by producing enough biomethane to power 5,000 homes each year.

Purpose of role

The Agricultural Mechanic is responsible for the safe, efficient and high-quality maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment across Grosvenor Farms. The role supports the reliability and performance of a wide range of equipment from ride-on mowers through to tractors, telehandlers and combine harvesters, as well as selected construction plant. The post holder works across workshop and field environments to ensure machinery uptime, whilst upholding Grosvenor Farms’ standards of safety, asset care and professionalism.

Key responsibilities

• Machinery Maintenance & Repair

Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across agricultural and construction machinery, diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults and implementing effective repairs. Undertake routine servicing in accordance with manufacturer guidance and internal schedules, and respond promptly to breakdowns, including in-field repairs during peak operational periods.

• Asset Care & Maintenance Planning

Support preventative maintenance programmes through routine inspection of machinery, identifying wear, defects and emerging issues. Maintain accurate service records and communicate recurring faults or reliability concerns to support continuous improvement in asset performance.

• Workshop Operations

Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment, ensuring tools and equipment are used and stored correctly. Support the management of parts and consumables and contribute to efficient planning and prioritisation of maintenance activities.

• Health, Safety & Compliance

Work in accordance with Grosvenor Farms health, safety and environmental policies, always using appropriate PPE and safe systems of work. Identify hazards, report near misses and incidents promptly and ensure all machinery maintenance meets relevant legal and compliance standards.

• Operational Support

Work closely with farm teams to ensure machinery availability and provide practical support during key seasonal operations where required. Contribute flexibly across Grosvenor Farms activities, including supporting other enterprises where appropriate.

Skills Knowledge and Experience

Experience in agricultural machinery maintenance and repair. Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems. Experience working with modern agricultural machinery including tractors, telehandlers and combines. Experience with digital diagnostic equipment and basic fabrication and welding processes would be beneficial. Full UK driving licence.

Rota and shift patterns

As part of the workshop team, the post holder will be required to work flexibly to support farm operations, including weekend working and providing out-of-hours support on a rota basis.

Technical skills/knowledge

• Basic knowledge of dairy and arable farming systems
• Strong working knowledge of agricultural machinery, including tractors, telehandlers, loaders, cultivation equipment, drills, sprayers, mowers, trailers and harvesting machinery
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using practical inspection methods and diagnostic equipment where required
• Good understanding of planned preventative maintenance, servicing schedules, lubrication requirements and machinery record keeping
• Competent in the safe use of workshop tools, lifting equipment, grinders, drills, welders and other common maintenance equipment
• Practical fabrication and welding skills, with the ability to carry out basic repairs and modifications to machinery and equipment
• Knowledge of machinery safety, guarding, LOLER/PUWER principles, safe isolation and the importance of maintaining equipment in a compliant and roadworthy condition
• Ability to work safely and effectively in both workshop and field environments, including during busy seasonal periods
