Job summary

Softcat plc, a leading UK IT infrastructure provider, is seeking a Product Owner to join a cross-functional squad. You will translate product strategy into prioritised work, maintain the backlog, and collaborate with designers, engineers, QA, and stakeholders to deliver high-impact improvements.

The role focuses on balancing customer value with business priorities, refining backlog items, writing clear user stories, and ensuring acceptance criteria.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Product Owner or in a similar product role within an agile environment.
• Experience working in a cross-functional product squad with engineering, design, and delivery teams.
• Strong understanding of Agile / Scrum principles and product development practices.
• Ability to write clear user stories, define acceptance criteria, and manage competing priorities.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to work closely with a Product Manager and translate strategic direction into squad execution.
• Comfortable making decisions, balancing trade-offs, and working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the product backlog for your squad, ensuring priorities are clear, aligned, and well understood.
• Make day-to-day prioritisation and scope decisions within agreed product goals and guardrails.
• Continuously balance customer value, business priorities, technical considerations, and delivery constraints when making prioritisation decisions.
• Ensure backlog items are sufficiently refined, understood, and ready for development.
• Ensure delivered work meets agreed acceptance criteria and contributes to the desired customer and business outcomes.
• Use delivery metrics, customer feedback, and product performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Translate product direction, customer needs, and business requirements into well-defined user stories and acceptance criteria.
