About the role

SZC is ultimately owned by two shareholders, EDF and HMG. The shareholders hold their investment in SZC through NNB Holdings Company (SZC) Limited. Over the course of the current shareholding arrangements the shareholdings of the two shareholders will change.

The shareholders will fund SZC up until Financial Close through equity in line with the approved schedule and budget. SZC's business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure (including activities relating to hydrogen, direct air capture and/or desalination) at Sizewell C in Suffolk. The principal objectives of the current development phase of the SZC project are to agree and implement the Capital Raise Plan, including completing an equity and debt raise, agree the core supply chain contracts and obtain the regulatory permits and licences required for the construction phase of the Project (including the core environmental permits and nuclear site licence).

Prior to the government investment decision SZC operated as part of EDF in the Nuclear Development business unit afectados were staffed by EDF colleagues and independent contractors who are now in the process of transferring to the direct employment of SZC. It is setting itself up as an organisation capable of delivering a new nuclear power plant, from investment case and funding, to construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance and decommissioning.

What you'll be doing

The purpose of the role is to provide management, leadership and control of a multi-disciplinary team comprising Sub Agents, Section Engineers, Site Engineers & Foremen.

Core
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm
  • Motivate section team and manage performance; monitor the competency of team members and undertake training/ coaching as appropriate
Health Safety & Environmental
  • Sets targets and KPI's in line with Project / Business objectives and monitors performance
  • Carries out periodic Safety & Environment Tours as required by the Project H & S Plan
  • Assists Lead in Incident Investigation and information gathering / review.
  • Appraises improvement options and actions / instigatesImplicit as appropriate
  • Leads periodic risk reviews and takes output forward to the Project Risk Register
  • Monitors effectiveness of the H & S Management System
  • Keeps up to date with changes in legislation and cascades information to the team
Engineering Control
  • Ensures that sufficient resources are allocated to the Worksळ Section and that each has an appropriate level of ability
  • Identifies and arranges training as required
Quality
  • Sets targets and KPI's in line with Project objectives and monitors performance
  • Ensures site audits are undertaken and takes appropriate action on the findings
  • Appraises improvement options and leads / instigates actions as appropriate
  • Implements systems and processes to manage the quality of the constructive works
  • Involved in working groups focused on Improvement Areas
  • Overall ownership of Handover Documentation for Section
Productivity
  • Sets targets and KPI's in line with key outputs and monitors performance, reporting Section Progress
  • Carry out constructive analysis of fully resourced programme
  • Manages sub‑contractor performance based on KPI's
  • Ensures production of operational target programmes to reflect overall construction programme
  • Chairs prescribed Short Interval Control section meetings to review performance on site
Commercial
  • Sets targets and KPI's in line with budget forecast
  • Attends and provides reports for weekly project meetings and identifies improvement areas and allocates / implements appropriate actions to team members
  • Involved in the procurement of subcontractors and advises on commercial aspects / preferred attendances
  • Produces the risk schedule for section, reviews and updates

Prepares a cost plan and manages cost value

  • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately. Suggests and implements improvements to systems and capable of stopping operations when necessary.
  • Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity; experienced at encouraging direct reports to do the same and managing a team to ensure tasks are carried out effectively and key messages cascaded.
  • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights as required by the programme.
  • Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility.

  • Clear understanding and experience of the requirements for handover and self‑certification of the works, including management experience of the same.
Productivity
  • Able to analyse and offer improvement on a fully resourced stage programme in the accepted format / software.
  • Understands sub‑contractor KPI's and has experience of using them to manage performance.
  • Able to dynamically shift programme and adapt to circumstances on site whilst maintaining focus on targets.
