Job summary

Senior Aerospace Thermal Engineering in the United Kingdom is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to plan, implement and optimise production processes for aerospace components. You will ensure compliant documentation, drive process improvements and support non-conforming parts disposition with the MRB process.

Qualifications

  • Qualified to Degree, HND or HNC level in Aerospace, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role (min 2 years), preferably Aerospace.
  • Ability to interpret engineering, quality and H&S standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation (route cards, BOMs, work instructions) meeting customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing methods with clear control.
  • Engineering point of contact for MRB; dispositioning non-conforming parts and concessions.
  • Implement technical process changes identified through CRB.
  • Identify improvement initiatives and implement changes within timescales.
  • Solve manufacturing problems using RCCA methods.
  • Support Continuous Improvement and uphold a zero-harm culture.
  • Review customer specifications and feed updates into CRB.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers/customers and assist with proposals.
  • Support NPI activities including design reviews and pFMEA.

Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The position of Manufacturing Engineer requires creative, analytical and developmental thinking, as well as qualifications and experience in a relevant field of manufacturing. The planning, implementation, optimisation, and supervision of manufacturing processes are key requirements of this role.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll take responsibility for the implementation and definition of processes, as well as the dispositioning and treatment (return to conformity) of non-conforming products, in order to support the strategic and operational requirements of the business. An essential skill is the ability to communicate with employees involved in all stages of manufacture.

Enthusiasm, cooperation and a positive outlook, as well as an understanding of the technology and manufacturing concepts involved is important, as is the ability to prioritise and plan accordingly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring all manufacturing documentation (route cards, BOMs, work instructions) are created and maintained, ensuring all applicable customer requirements are met.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing methods, ensuring that they are clearly defined and controlled effectively.
  • Working as the Engineering point of contact for the Material Review Board, where you will be required to have a strong involvement in the dispositioning of non-conforming parts, as well as drafting/approval of concessions, rework sheets and all other associated actions/documentation to support operational activities.
  • Implementing technical process changes identified through CRB (Change Review Board).
  • Working with the wider Engineering team to identify improvement initiatives, utilising a structured approach to identifying and implementing potential process changes within an agreed timescale.
  • Solving manufacturing problems, by establishing RCCA to resolve internal and external issues.
  • Supporting CI (Continuous Improvement) activities, whilst maintaining a zero-harm culture.
  • Regular, planned review of customer specifications, feeding back any updates into the manufacturing process via the CRB (Change Review Board).
  • Maintaining good working relationships with suppliers/customers, both written and verbally.
  • Support in the collection of data for estimates, technical and manufacturing proposals.
  • Support NPI activity, including, but not limited to, design reviews, input into pFMEA sessions, and the creation of technical documentation.
  • Assisting and supporting special process engineers in specific projects, or the implementation of process changes.
  • Staying on top of technological advancements.
  • To provide cover for other engineering disciplines as requested.
  • Work in line with the Company Values (Safety, Accountability, Respect & Trust, Integrity, Excellence, Customer Focus) and demonstrate the associated behaviours in your daily work
  • Consistently follow Health, Safety & Environmental procedures, including wearing the required personal protective equipment provided
  • Complete training as required and apply the learning in performing operations to demonstrate competence
  • Perform all reasonable requests made by management

Qualifications

Key Requirements:

  • Right to Work in UK
  • Qualified to Degree, HND, or HNC level in Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Min. of 2 years’ experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role, preferably in an Aerospace environment.
  • Able to interpret and apply engineering, quality and H&S standards and specifications.
  • Demonstrates a pragmatic and structured approach to problem solving.
  • Self-motivated, organised with excellent time management skills.
  • Strong ‘team player’, utilising all available resources to get the best result.
  • Engineering/manufacturing focused with a commercial awareness.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate including MS Office (MS Project is also desirable).
  • Understanding of Engineering drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & tolerancing).

Desirable Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of MRP systems, preferably Syspro.
  • CAD experience (preference Solidworks).
