Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Data Analyst to join our aerospace programme in Belfast. You will transform complex data into clear insights to support decision‑making and performance improvement, working with stakeholders to define reporting requirements and build effective data solutions.

The role focuses on data quality, dashboards and KPI reporting, combining SQL, Excel and Power BI to deliver accessible analyses. On-site placement with clearable security.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Data Analyst or similar in aerospace.
  • Experience with large and complex datasets.
  • Advanced Excel skills including PivotTables and formulas.
  • Power BI for dashboards, reports and data visualisations.
  • SQL to extract, manipulate and analyse data.
  • Data cleansing, validation and data-quality principles.
  • Experience creating and monitoring KPIs and performance metrics.
  • Translate raw data into meaningful business insights and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyse and interpret data from multiple sources to identify trends, risks, gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards and performance indicators for stakeholders.
  • Work with internal teams to understand data requirements and translate into analytical solutions.
  • Clean, validate and structure datasets to ensure accuracy, completeness and reliability.
  • Monitor key performance measures and investigate deviations from targets.
  • Present complex data in a clear and accessible format to enable informed decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting and data-analysis processes.
  • Support the development of KPI frameworks and performance reporting across functions.
  • Perform detailed analysis to understand root causes behind performance issues and provide actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve data quality, reporting consistency and visibility.
  • Produce regular and ad-hoc analyses in response to programme and business requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using data to measure impact.

ALTEN is looking for a Data Analyst to join our team and support a major programme within the aerospace sector.


This role will focus on transforming complex operational and business data into clear, meaningful insights that support decision‑making and performance improvement. You will work with a range of stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, develop effective data solutions and improve the visibility and quality of key information across the programme.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Gather, analyse and interpret data from multiple sources to identify trends, risks, gaps and improvement opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards and performance indicators that provide stakeholders with clear visibility of business and operational performance.

  • Work closely with internal teams to understand their data requirements and translate these into effective analytical solutions.

  • Clean, validate and structure datasets to ensure information is accurate, complete and reliable.

  • Monitor key performance measures and investigate areas where results differ from expected targets.

  • Present complex data in a clear and accessible format, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions.

  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate existing reporting and data‑analysis processes.

  • Support the development of KPI frameworks and performance reporting across different business functions.

  • Perform detailed analysis to understand the root causes behind performance issues and provide actionable insights.

  • Collaborate with technical and non‑technical stakeholders to improve data quality, reporting consistency and data visibility.

  • Produce regular and ad‑hoc analysis in response to programme and business requirements.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by using data to identify inefficiencies and measure the impact of improvement actions.


Qualifications

Required Skills:


  • Previous professional experience working as a Data Analyst, Business Data Analyst, Reporting Analyst or similar.within Aerospace

  • Strong experience working with large and complex datasets.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including data manipulation, formulas, PivotTables and analytical functions.

  • Strong experience using Power BI to develop dashboards, reports and data visualisations.

  • Experience using SQL to extract, manipulate and analyse data.

  • Strong understanding of data cleansing, validation and data‑quality principles.

  • Experience creating and monitoring KPIs and performance metrics.

  • Ability to translate raw data into meaningful business insights and recommendations.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities with excellent attention to detail.

  • Confidence working with stakeholders to understand requirements and communicate analytical findings.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate analysis within agreed deadlines.


Required Qualifications:


  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.


Desirable Skills:


  • Previous experience within aerospace, engineering, manufacturing or another complex industrial environment.

  • Knowledge of Power Query and DAX.

  • Experience automating or streamlining recurring reporting activities.

  • Exposure to Python for data analysis would be advantageous.

  • Understanding of manufacturing, supply chain, quality or operational performance data.

  • Experience producing reports for senior stakeholders and programme leadership.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and using data to support process
