The Advisory Teacher promotes best practice and drives continuous improvement across the Virtual School network.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide intensive educational casework to ensure children in care receive appropriate services, interventions, and multi-agency support.
  2. Lead the delivery of the Virtual School's vision, ensuring alignment with national legislation, local priorities, and best practice standards.
  3. Ensure high-quality Personal Education Plans (PEPs) are completed on time and that pupil premium funding is used purposefully and effectively.

  5. Undertake direct work with children-including observation, mentoring, and tuition—to remove barriers and support consistent educational engagement.
  6. Track, analyse, and report on pupil progress data, implementing timely interventions where concerns arise.
  7. Design and deliver training for teachers, carers, and social workers to raise awareness of the educational needs of children in care.
  8. Develop and deliver specialist learning programmes, enrichment activities, homework clubs, and other educational events.
  9. Monitor attendance and work with schools to address persistent absence, ensuring early action for any child missing education.
  10. Maintain effective partnerships with internal teams, traded services, voluntary organisations, and external agencies to support best outcomes.

  6. Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills with diverse stakeholders.
  7. High level of organisational ability with experience managing challenging caseloads and meeting tight deadlines.
  8. Strong IT competency and experience in preparing detailed reports for multiple audiences.
  9. Understanding of child development, behaviour management, SEN, and trauma‑informed practice.
