ADVISORY & INQUEST ASSOCIATE | 1-3 PQE | NATIONAL LAW FIRM | MANCHESTER

BCL Legal is pleased to be assisting a top-ranked national law firm with the recruitment of an Associate to join its leading Advisory & Inquest team. This fantastic opportunity is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, with flexible and hybrid working supported. Excellent salary and benefits available.

The Role

As an Advisory & Inquest Associate, you will:

  • Join one of the largest and most highly ranked teams in the country (Tier 1 in Chambers), providing exceptional advisory and inquest services to a wide range of public and private sector health and social care clients.
  • Manage a varied caseload of inquest and Court of Protection matters (including health and welfare applications and advocacy), primarily for NHS clients, with opportunities to act for independent healthcare providers and local authorities.
  • Work on national Court of Protection and inquest matters within a team renowned for delivering high-quality legal services on complex issues.
  • Have opportunities to develop experience across a broader range of health and social care advisory work, including:
    • Serious medical treatment cases
    • Mental health and mental capacity
    • Deprivation of liberty
    • Safeguarding
    • Judicial review and Human Rights Act claims
    • Information governance (DPA/FOI)
    • Continuing healthcare/IFR and funding disputes
About You

To be successful in your application for this Advisory & Inquest Associate vacancy, you will have:

  • 1-3 years' PQE, ideally with experience in Court of Protection health and welfare applications, inquest advocacy, or related healthcare advisory work.
  • Strong advocacy and case management skills gained in the Court of Protection, inquests, or a relevant setting.
  • Experience in health and social care advisory matters (mental health, safeguarding, funding disputes, consent issues) - desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to deliver training and present complex legal issues clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality written advice.
  • A good understanding of the NHS and familiarity with online research tools and case management systems.
  • A collaborative, flexible and ambitious approach, with strong organisational skills and the ability to meet financial targets.
