About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a band 7 surgical prehabilitation dietitian. The post holder will provide expert dietetic advice, education and support in an outpatient and ward setting to identify adult patients requiring nutritional optimisation pre‑ and post‑colorectal surgery, working alongside the St Marks multidisciplinary team (MDT). The successful applicant will be based at the Central Middlesex Hospital site where St Marks Hospital is situated, part of the London North West University Healthcare Trust. St Marks is a national centre for intestinal failure and gastroenterology and the dietitians are an established and valued part of the MDT. The post will also provide cover to the intestinal failure team if needed.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead, plan, deliver and evaluate the St. Marks Hospital clinical dietetic service to the complex colorectal prehabilitation service, based at Central Middlesex Hospital.
  • Manage and optimise nutrition support for post‑operative colorectal surgical patients.
  • Support patients with weight management pre‑operatively.
  • Share an in‑patient caseload on the gastroenterology ward (including the enhanced care unit).
  • Lead and carry out regular clinical audit or research into this specialist area.
  • Provide theoretical and practical training, teaching and professional development support for dietitians, student dietitians, medical, nursing staff and allied health professionals.
  • Ensure work is in line with departmental, Trust and national dietetic standards.
  • Participate in the organisation, management and development of the dietetic team.
Qualifications & experience

Ideal candidate should have strong gastroenterology experience, particularly colorectal and parenteral nutrition. A proactive approach, good time‑management and communication skills are essential.
