Job description

CSH is looking for a experienced, motivated and passionate leader to join our Podiatry Team, specialising in Diabetes and Wound Care. Why join us? This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop advanced clinical podiatry services, ensuring high-quality care for patients with complex foot health needs. You will be part of a wider multidisciplinary diabetes foot team, at Ashford & St Peters Hospital, participating in Multi-disciplinary Diabetes Foot Clinics and Hot Foot Clinics, providing expert clinical leadership in wound care and diabetic foot management. You will help lead the podiatry wound care service, delivering innovative and responsive programmes of podiatric care to improve patient outcomes. You will have experience of managing high risk diabetic patients, preferably in an MDT setting and also possess evidence of post graduate study/qualifications relevant to the role.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, together with advanced knowledge and skills in wound care and diabetic foot management. Good IT skills are beneficial as the role requires working across a range of clinical systems, however full induction, support and ongoing training are provided.

Although not essential, it would be desirable to be a non-medical prescriber.

Job responsibilities

To lead and professionallysupport a team of podiatrists within a defined geographical area.

To lead in the evaluation,planning and implementation of service redesign and related policies andprocedures, in liaison with Podiatry Team leader and Operational Service Lead.

To lead in the operationaland strategic development of the service, embracing developments in practiceand evidence-based medicine.

To lead podiatry team basedcontinuous professional development (CPD) activities, participate in podiatryservice wide CPD activities, and participate in the development of the podiatryservice and co-owners as a team of managers.

To lead on clinical audits,service pilots/projects and other research activities to support thedevelopment of evidence-based practice. To lead and implement a regularreview of outcome measures across the service to ensure the service provided iseffective.

To act as a source of clinicalexpertise and be the clinical lead for diabetes and wound care within thePodiatry department, ensuring an effective, co-ordinated podiatry service isprovided throughout the CSH area.

To lead in the developmentof MDT and Hot Foot Clinics and be involved in the day to day running ofpodiatry wound care clinics both in the community and the Ashford & StPeters Hospital sites. Cascading information to the whole team, triagingreferrals and requesting investigations

To undertake training ofpodiatry students, help colleagues maintain and develop their clinical skillsin wound care, and educate other health care professionals on the role ofpodiatric wound care.

Provide highly specialistdiagnostic assessment, treatment and advice, including surgical interventionfor complex cases to maintain and improve patients mobility and independenceand prevention of disability.

Be part of a widermultidisciplinary diabetes foot team at Ashford & St Peters Hospitalproviding podiatry wound care for both inpatient and outpatient services.Including Multi-disciplinary Diabetes Foot Clinics and Diabetes Hot FootClinics.

To be involved indomiciliary wound care, liaising with TVNs and Community nursing teams whereapplicable.

To be responsible for developingand maintaining patient pathways between acute and community care.

Person Specification
Experience
  • 5 Years postgraduate NHS clinical experience
  • Experienced and able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge in the planning and provision of High Risk assessments and advanced wound care.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Awareness of current NHS policies and trends, including NSFs and clinical governance.
  • Experience of leading a team.
  • Experience as a clinical educator.
  • Knowledge and experience of biomechanics and orthotic prescription.
  • Experience with using pressure relieving devices (e.g TCT).
  • Experience in clinical audit.
  • Experience in research.
Qualifications
  • BSc Hons Degree Podiatry or equivalent/ Diploma in Podiatric Medicine.
  • HCPC Registered.
  • Car Driver (Full Licence).
  • Certificate in Local Anaesthetic.
  • Evidence of Post graduate education / CPD.
