Job summary

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is seeking a Social Worker Advanced Practitioner for the Specialist Assessments Team. The role offers a full-time, 37-hour week with an emphasis on high-quality specialist assessments to support safeguarding, permanency planning and positive outcomes for children and families.

You will work with social workers, managers and multi-agency partners to deliver evidence-based assessments and recommendations for complex cases, ensuring timely completion and strong

Qualifications

  • Social workers must be registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience completing complex assessments and producing analytical reports.
  • Excellent report-writing, assessment and analytical skills.
  • Experience contributing to court proceedings and legal planning processes.
  • Strong knowledge of the Children Act, safeguarding procedures, and statutory guidance.
  • Robust professional judgement to support complex decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a range of specialist assessments including ParentAssess, Parenting Assessments, Sibling Assessments, Capacity to Protect Assessments and Viability Assessments.
  • Produce detailed, evidence-based reports to support care planning and court proceedings.
  • Provide specialist analysis and recommendations to support decision-making in complex cases.
  • Collaborate with social workers, managers, legal representatives and partner agencies.
  • Attend legal planning meetings, case discussions and court hearings when required.
  • Ensure all assessments are completed within statutory and organisational timescales.
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes and permanency planning arrangements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legislation, guidance and best practice in Children’s Social Care.
  • Support development of high-quality practice across Children’s Services.
  • Promote the voice and wishes of children throughout assessment and planning.
