Job description
Job Overview

We welcome applications from experienced Advanced Practitioners and Specialist BMS with dissection experience who aspire to develop into a Dissection role.

The successful candidate will be supported in completing the IBMS DEP in Histology Dissection.

You will be required to have good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure. Previous experience of staff training is desirable, as is experience supporting accreditation to ISO 15189 standards.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to join one of the most established pathology networked services and be part of the development of the wider ME2 network.

Applications will also be considered for candidates preferring part‑time hours. Interested candidates are strongly recommended to arrange an informal visit. Previous applicants will not be shortlisted.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver complex specimen dissection, including category D and E samples, under the guidance of the Consultant Pathologist team.
  • Supervise specimen reception and the dissection area and support the training of Band 5 & 6 Biomedical Scientists to dissect RCPath/IBMS category A to C samples.
  • Support the management team in delivering the Directorate’s Quality Management requirements and ensuring continued successful UKAS accreditation.
  • Take an active role in continuous improvement activities and service improvements, using Lean management systems.
  • Fully support the department’s seven‑day service.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Advanced Practitioner or Specialist BMS level experience in dissection.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Experience of staff training.
  • Experience supporting ISO 15189 accreditation processes.
  • Willingness to undertake the IBMS DEP in Histology Dissection.
