Job description
Overview

We are looking for a Pharmacist who wants to enhance their skills in medication safety. The role will be working alongside the current multidisciplinary Medication Safety Team. You need to be motivated and have the drive to make a difference to medication safety; with a passion for working with other professional groups and asking those "so what" questions. Your role will involve investigation, auditing, negotiating and implementing change.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead on investigations and the identification and implementation of learning from incidents, strengthening your skills with the use of InPhase and attendance at events like After Action Reviews.

  • Support with managing, updating and developing clinical guidelines.

  • Take a lead on overseeing and co‑ordinating the Pharmacy Audit programme.

  • Gain experience of responding to Patient Safety Alerts, including opportunities to take the lead on action planning.

  • Support the Medication Safety Officer in setting the strategic direction for the Medication Safety Team.

  • Oversee and monitor the development and maintenance of medicines‑related policies and guidelines.

  • Manage and coordinate the annual Pharmacy audit plan.


Qualifications and Training


  • MPharm or equivalent degree in pharmacy approved by the General Pharmaceutical Council.

  • Registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or evidence of equivalent transferable experience.

  • Desirable: Pharmacist prescriber or non‑medical prescriber status.


Experience and Skills


  • At least 1 year pre‑registration training.

  • Highly specialised knowledge of medicines governance and clinical pharmacy.

  • Detailed knowledge of clinical pharmacy, medicines management and pharmacy practice.

  • Computer literate with experience in pharmacy practice research and clinical audit.

  • Management of drug budgets.

  • Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and pay attention to detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure, on own initiative and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to continuing professional development.

  • Ability to work in various locations across Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.

  • Planning, organisational and problem‑solving skills.

  • Experience of managing staff.


Additional Requirements

Registration: Must have current UK professional registration.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required.


Working Arrangements

Fixed‑term 12‑month contract, full‑time with flexible working options including job share. Includes weekend working and possible on‑call commitment.


Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 per annum, pro rata. Pay scheme: Agenda for Change. Band: 8a.


Location

Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Acre Street, Huddersfield, HD3 3EA. The role may involve working across the network of services provided by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
