A leading healthcare provider in London seeks an experienced Advanced Paediatric Audiologist to join their team. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality assessment and rehabilitation for children, provide clinical leadership, and contribute to service development. Applicants should have a relevant degree and at least 2 years of postgraduate experience. The position offers a part-time, permanent contract with competitive pay and opportunities for further training.
Whittington Health Audiology and Vestibular Medicine Service – Advanced Paediatric Audiologist AFC – Band 7 – 4 days – Permanent contract, 30 hours per week.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated Advanced Paediatric Audiologist to join our friendly team. You will deliver high‑quality diagnostic and rehabilitative care for babies, children and young people, contribute to service development, provide clinical leadership within the paediatric team and ensure care is delivered in line with national best‑practice standards.
Applicants who do not yet hold full competency in ABR testing are welcome to apply – comprehensive training and supervision will be provided to develop this specialist skill.
There will also be an opportunity to attend the Anglia Ruskin ABR course to support ABR training.
You will be responsible for leading assessments of children of all ages, supporting Consultant‑led Paediatric clinics and contributing to tier‑2 service in Camden & Islington. This is a great opportunity to take a lead role in a tertiary Paediatric service.

We are a Consultant‑led service, providing a comprehensive diagnostic and (re)habilitation service to neonates, children, and adults in Haringey, Camden and Islington. We are also the tertiary centre for the Newborn hearing screening programme for babies referred from Haringey and Enfield, with close links to the Teachers of the Deaf. Perform routine hearing assessments on pre‑school and school‑aged children as part of doctor‑led clinics, including visual reinforcement audiometry.
Undertake full audiological assessment of pre‑school and school‑aged children – including routine and complex cases (special educational needs, multiple disabilities and communication disorders). Assessment covers full case history, otoscopy, tympanometry, stapedial reflexes, otoacoustic emissions, distraction testing, visual reinforcement audiometry, pure tone audiometry and speech discrimination tests.
Analyse test results, discuss findings with families/carers and formulate individual management plans.
Carry out auditory brainstem response assessment on newborn babies and older children; take history, interpret test results and share with families sensitively.
Partake in internal and external ABR peer review system. Provide a comprehensive hearing aid service to newborn babies and children in line with national best‑practice guidelines (MCHAS, NICE). Include real‑ear measurements on older children and real‑ear to coupler differences in babies and young children.
Perform repairs and modifications to faulty hearing aids. Take aural impressions appropriate to hearing loss and hearing aid types.
Review children and their amplification needs in audiologist‑led clinics – taking full history, age‑appropriate hearing assessments, speech discrimination tests, aided assessments, and communicating results and management plans to families.
Offer appropriate advice and guidance to families of children with permanent and temporary hearing loss.
liaise with key stakeholders involved in child care to ensure optimum support for child and family – including sensory support services, paediatricians, safeguarding, health visitors, GPs, etc.
Problem‑solve inconsistent or erroneous findings/test results.
Responsible for a specific area of paediatric audiology – to be determined; may include managerial responsibility for the tier‑2 service in Camden & Islington at the Northern Heath Centre.
Manage junior staff: inductions, personal development reviews, clinical supervision, monitoring of annual leave, sickness and general 1:1s. Escalate serious/relevant issues timely to the lead clinical scientist.
Provide clinical training/supervision to ATO, MSc, BSc students and locums. Provide training for school nurses involved in screening hearing. Investigate and manage DATIX incidents as delegated.
Ensure national/local/trust policies, protocols and guidelines are followed and support junior staff in adhering to them. Deputise for the Lead Senior Clinical Scientist as requested.
Contribute to departmental and team meetings and ensure actions are completed timely. Arrange professional and in‑house training as requested by the Lead Clinical Scientist. Disseminate learning to peers and other health professionals.
Maintain general equipment and room maintenance for ABR rooms, stock checks, re‑stocking and input of personnel data into the audit system, Trust patient system and NIHS database. Produce timely and accurate reports for all babies and children seen in clinics.
Generate appropriate referrals to other specialities (ENT, TOD). Deal with any queries from patients. Accountable for day‑to‑day management of work areas, ensuring equipment is maintained and calibrated and reporting faults to the Lead Senior Clinical Scientist. Input patient audiological data into the patient management system (Auditbase), Trust patient system and Newborn Hearing Screening national database (ESP/SH4).
Participate in research projects as required. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of scientific, technical and clinical practices and stay abreast of professional change.
Participate in Family Friendly Paediatric Service Provision as part of a multidisciplinary team. Review service processes and pathways to ensure optimum efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Assist the Lead Clinical Scientist with departmental audit, implementation of action plans and attend meetings regarding audiology service issues. Present educational/research information received from training to other staff.
Attend service training and study courses for personal development. Actively participate in service developments, commenting on changes with evidence‑based practice under guidance of consultant/Lead Senior Clinical Scientist.
Provide necessary information for equipment procurement, quality assurance and clinical governance to enable best practice and service development. Monitor own CPD activity to meet registration requirements.
Provide cover as required commensurate with grade. Perform any other ad hoc duties requested by the Consultant or Lead Clinical Scientist. May be required to work at different locations at times.
