Job description
Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for the management and care of women attending the Colposcopy Service. The post-holder will provide oversight of the national screening programme and contribute to quality assurance processes. They will be responsible for the management and development of staff working within the Colposcopy Service, ensuring that the service complies with the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) guideline. The post holder will be based in the specialty of Colposcopy with responsibility to facilitate effective communication links with the multi‑disciplinary team and will attend monthly Colposcopy MDT meetings, quarterly Plymouth and Cornwall Board meetings, South Colposcopy Leads meetings, and will be a key member of the Colposcopy and Cervical Screening Business Group.

Responsibilities

They will be a highly competent, visible, experienced autonomous practitioner who uses specialist knowledge and advanced skills to support the Colposcopy Service. They will coordinate all nursing activities within the service, ensuring resources are managed effectively and efficiently. This includes equipment management, maintaining health and safety standards, and completing data entry audits.

The post holder will take relevant histories, perform holistic physical and mental health examinations, undertake clinical assessment to establish and evaluate management plans within the limits of their scope of practice, and demonstrate advanced clinical judgment and evidence‑based critical decision‑making.

The post holder will assist the Speciality Manager in providing cover for doctor‑led clinics and support the Lead Colposcopist in ensuring national standards are adhered to and changes implemented. They will oversee the acquisition and validation of data to support quarterly and annual performance information, including mandatory KC65 returns.

Attendance is required at monthly Colposcopy MDT meetings, quarterly Plymouth and Cornwall Board meetings, South Colposcopy Leads meetings, and the Colposcopy and Cervical Screening Business Group (key member) meetings.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
  • NMC registration
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent
  • University qualification in autonomous practice/clinical skills (e.g., University Advanced Clinical Practice Masters/Advanced Clinical Skills PGCert)
  • Completion of relevant extended role scope competencies, such as BSCCP Treatment and Diagnosis accreditation
