The ANP/ ACP is ahighly skilled healthcare professional who provides clinical consultations andmedication prescriptions remotely to patients via telemedicine platforms, videocalls, or secure online systems.

The ANP/ACP mustdemonstrate advanced clinical knowledge, a thorough understanding ofprescribing laws, and the ability to work independently in assessing,diagnosing, and managing patient conditions. This role requires effectivecommunication skills to ensure safe and effective care while maintaining thehighest standards of patient confidentiality.

Main duties of the job

Receiving handover from Paramedics forpatients who require follow up care.

Conducting preliminary patient examinations to ascertain the patientscondition

Maintainaccurate anddetailed electronichealth recordsof patient consultations, assessments,diagnoses, and prescribed treatments.

Ensurethat allrecords complywith dataprotection regulations,such asthe Data ProtectionAct 2018 andGDPR (GeneralData ProtectionRegulation).

Documentall interactions andprescribe medicationsin a clear, timely,and legally compliant manner.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

Receiving handover from Paramedics for patients who require follow up care.

Conducting preliminary patient examinations to ascertain the patients condition

Maintain accurate and detailed electronic health records of patient consultations, assessments, diagnoses, and prescribed treatments.

Ensure that all records comply with data protection regulations, such as the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

Document all interactions and prescribe medications in a clear, timely, and legally compliant manner.

Confidently and competently make ethical, evidence-based decisions and interventions when faced with complexity and assess and manage the risk associated with these

decisions.

Prescribe medications based on patient assessments in accordance with current clinical guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in using telemedicine platforms, Electronic Health Records (EHR), SystmOne and other relevant healthcare technologies

To undertake the duties of non-medical prescribing with safer prescribing policies and national policies.

To maintain appropriate skills and competency in accordance with guidance set out by professional regulatory bodies

To promote and maintain harm reduction strategies in the treatment and prevention of associated blood borne viruses

To provide advice, guidance, and leadership in respect of health and concurrent substance misuse needs

Demonstrate critical thinking and skills in clinical decision making in the management of patients.

Administer treatment within local guidelines / protocols.

To maintain competencies associated with the role ensuring working within own limitations / scope of practice.

Referral / sign posting to appropriate health professionals / services.

Accredited advanced nurse practice programme OR substantial autonomous practice experience supported by the appropriate post registration qualification at degree or MSc level. (which maps across to ANP competencies)

Independent prescriber

Evidence of continued professional development at masters level, including delivery of evidence-based care

Substantial autonomous practice working and multiprofessional team working

Demonstrable experience of working to the ANP competencies (RCN/National)

Demonstrable experience coupled with a broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in adults

Significant experience of working in a complex environment which allows for the full use of ANP skills e.g. nurse led clinics or emergency care centres, out of hours facilities, walk in centres or general practice.

Experience of independent prescriber including identifying and leading change to clinical/ prescribing practice to improve service delivery

Effective communication skills within practice both written and verbal.

Keyboard skills - computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Able to take a concise history and demonstrate differential diagnosis skills at an advanced level, employing critical thinking.

Able to maintain contemporaneous clinical records following clinical activities

Ability to use own initiative and work as team member by developing and maintaining positive working relationships
