A community health service provider in Croydon is seeking an experienced Health Care Assistant to join the Paediatric Outpatient team. The successful candidate will assist in outpatient clinics and perform paediatric phlebotomy. Ideal applicants must have NVQ level 3 in Care and valid phlebotomy training, with 2+ years in healthcare settings. This role offers a salary between £29,651 and £31,312 per annum, inclusive of allowances.

We have an opportunity for an experienced health care assistant to join thePaediatric Outpatient team as a Band 3. Working in this team you will be responsiblefor helping to facilitate efficient running of the paediatric outpatient clinics and will bepart of a team of advanced health care assistants running the children's phlebotomyservice.

1. To weigh and measure all children and babies attending as outpatients,recording the results on Cerner as well as clearly and accurately in the patientsnotes. The post holder will also be required to take observations as directed by thenursing and medical teams.
2. To obtain blood samples from children attending at the request of their local GPor attending an outpatient appointment. This may involve pacifying an upset orfearful child and / or their parents.
3. To remain up to date in venepuncture techniques and related techniquessuchas infection control, health and safety and manual handling.
4. To accurately identify requests and to label sample containers legibly with therequired information according to current procedures.
5. To maintain an up to date knowledge of the blood tests performed by variousdepartments and their appropriate bottles and containers.
6. To work autonomously and manage an appointment system, which at presenttime is recorded in a diary, for the patients referred by their GP. Ensuring that thisinformation is recorded on the hospital system. Training will be given on how to usethe ICE system for GP requests to print off blood forms.
7. Responsible for the maintenance of phlebotomy stock levels including checkingof expiry dates for stock within the department.
