An NHS Trust are seeking a SQL DBA to build and manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission‑critical production systems for an Always on SQL Farm.
The role is based in London, 2 days a week onsite and paying around £400-440pd (outside IR35).
Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
- Apply data modelling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
- Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end‑to‑end.
- Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
- Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
- Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross‑training to other peers and team members.
- Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back‑up, and recovery specifications.
- Installs revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques; coordinating installation requirements.
- Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.
- Prepares users by conducting training; providing information; resolving problems.
- Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organisation standards.
Experience
- Advanced SQL experience (over 5 years)
- Configuring and creating dashboards with Power BI. – Dealing with multi‑Terabyte, high throughput, highly available databases will stretch your knowledge of SQL.
- Storage fabric experience (Fibre and iSCSI)
- Business Continuity failover experience for SQL Failover
- Support project team members during the analysis and planning stages of project/programme delivery and/or software development with a view to using Change Management
- Writing reports, instructions, and specifications
